NYC Vegan is a fast-casual plant-based restaurant serving great-tasting food with an international influence. Executive Chef/Owner Kai Oginga creates dishes that draw on his experience from growing up in St. Lucia and his love for Ethiopian, Indian, Italian, Mediterranean, and Asian cuisine. My journey to become a chef began in 2009 when I got certified as a Raw Food Chef. I then moved to New York City in 2010 where I trained and worked for 10-plus years at some of the most world-renowned vegan restaurants on the Upper West Side and in Harlem. During those years, I had the good fortune of meeting and preparing food for celebrities such as Paul McCartney, Forest Whitaker, Stevie Wonder, Chadwick Boseman, Cicely Tyson, Lenny Kravitz, Danny Glover, John Salley, and Styles P to name a few. In addition, I volunteered as a teaching assistant at Natural Gourmet Institute, one of the top cooking schools in the world for plant-based culinary arts. From dishwasher to General Manager and back to line cook, my mission is to deliver food that is nutrient-packed and tasty. The menu includes soups, wraps, bowls, sandwiches, salads, sides, beverages, and desserts.
